Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

There are three subtypes of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD):

  • Hyperactive-impulsive
  • Combined Hyperactive-impulsive and Inattentive

Although there is no exact cause for ADHD, the origin and severity of symptoms appear to be impacted by various genetic, environmental, nutritional, medical, and social factors.

Inattention

  • Easily distracted
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Easily bored
  • Easily confused
  • Difficulty following instructions

Hyperactivity

  • Restlessness
  • Hyperverbal
  • Constantly in motion
  • Inability to be quiet when instructed to do so

Impulsivity

  • Impatience
  • Inappropriate outbursts
  • Interruptive
  • Little or no regard for the consequences of inappropriate behaviors
